What are my library privileges?
Faculty receive access to the following privileges:
- Loan of up to 350 items for a period of 6 months ( with due dates landing on either April 1st or October 1st)
- 1 month before the due date, faculty receive a courtesy reminder email listing all items on their library account. Faculty may then use the online renewal service by clicking My Account on the Library Catalog, or contact a Smathers Library Circulation desk for assistance.
- Interlibrary Loan/ UBorrow services.
- Remote access to electronic databases.
- Assigning a proxy borrower to borrow materials on your behalf.

Proxy Borrower Program
Faculty may apply at any circulation desk for a Proxy Borrower card by filling out the online form, which allows registered research assistants to borrow books for the faculty member. These privileges must be renewed each semester.

International Scholars, Visiting Scholars, and Faculty Affiliates
International scholars are invited guests of the university, including Fulbright and other visiting scholars, who are participating in University of Florida research or teaching programs.
Faculty Affiliates are individuals who collaborate with and are sponsored by an academic department. They teach courses, direct the work of graduate students and/or participate in joint research programs and grants.
International scholars, visiting scholars and Faculty Affiliates have access to Interlibrary Loan/UBorrow Services and remote access to databases via the VPN client.

Getting library privileges?
Contact the Library West Circulation Department.
How to get privileges:
- Candidates must complete an online application.
- In addition, the Libraries require a letter on letterhead stationery signed by the dean, director, or department chair of the applicant’s host department or center. It must include:
- Applicant’s name and home institution
- UF-ID number
- Anticipated time at UF, including end date (may be no more than one year from date of application)
- Other pertinent information, including affiliated program and description of applicant’s role.
